RECOMMENDATIONS
TEACHING HOSPITAL
BUILDINGS AND EQUIPMENT
It is essential that the Clinical Departments should be provided with adequate teaching beds. This need is an urgent one which must be met to deal with students already enrolled in the first four years of the Medical Course.
The use of the Queen Mary Hospital as a teaching hospital appears to be a reasonable and satisfactory solution. Each clinical student needs 4 to 5 beds for efficient clinical teaching. We expect to have a total of 200 clinical students. Beds available at present are 160 in the Queen Mary Hospital and 70 in the Tsan Yuk Hospital. The Queen Mary Hospital has a total of 540 beds. These plus the 70 in the Tsan Yuk would still bc insufficient for teaching purposes, there is at present no other alternative.
but
It is recommended that the Government continue to administer the Hospital and provide some staff but that all its facilities be organized for teaching.
15. QUEEN MARY HOSPITAL
CLINICAL LECTURE THEATRE
There is urgent need for a Lecture Theatre at the Queen Mary Hospital to accommodate 200 students. The present Theatre will seat only 80.
From January 1951 lectures will be given to classes of 120
or more.
The present Theatre would continue to be used as a Clinical Demonstration Theatre.
It is recommended that a new Lecture Theatre be built on a suitable site behind the central block and provided with epidiascope, projector and X-ray viewing boxes.
16. OUTPATIENT PRACTICE
The present accommodation is inadequate for the existing final year; when the present 4th Year reaches the 0.P. Department teaching will be impossible. Out-patient facilities with only one clinical year are totally inadequate as all out-patient teaching is done in one room without any privacy. is it is expected that the Sai Ying Pun Hospital will be demolished in the not too distant future this recommendation is for temporary buildings of the hutment type.
